![]() I will say that the site I worked for was great, my management was flexible with hours and the team work hard, I cannot fault them. Unfortunately some management are limited on the power they possess to successfully make changes or do things as the powers above just don’t care. You would think they would hire enough considering the main selling point is the escape rooms but I’m sure if you’ve made it this far into my review you have realised they are clueless. If things break in the escape rooms (which happens ALOT) then you are expected to fix it (which is fine) but if it’s beyond your skills or your tools then you just have to adapt the games and lie to customers but the company don’t have enough people employed to fix rooms. The contract states you get a certain amount yet when you work there you have to earn it. Contracts state completely different things to some of the policies, for example holiday entitlement. They are too busy opening new sites to care about the staff they currently have. There’s no thanks for the hard work the team put in. Bonuses are not paid properly most of the time. They will tell you a wage and then not pay it but then ask for proof that you were told you would be paid the wage you were promised. It’s a fun job, I enjoyed the people I worked with but an awful company to work for. They money grab and cut corners every chance they get and disregard the staff wellbeing. They rely on the fact that being a Games Master is fun to keep you there, that's the only reason why people stay. They PURPOSELY don't put the fact that you are on call on a backup shift in the job description as they know people won't want to do it without being paid. The office has health and safety hazzards all over the place and they don't care to fix it. Constant lies from upper managment saying that they are "working on things" it's been months and nothing. No time to eat or to go to the toilet at times. No breaks if you have back to back games. Last year in summer we could "win" bottles of water and fans! Basic human nessecities if you are stuck in a tiny office for hours. ![]() Cringe copy and past incentives that you don't actually recieve and are impossible to acheive if you are busy on that weekend. Huge part of the games broken meaning you have to lie to customers. Wait 3-6 months for the maintence team to have a look at what's broken. One of the worst companies I've worked for: If you don't want to work for a company who thinks health and safety issues are just another day at the office and treat breaks on long shifts as a luxury, then do not work for this abismal company. One month I worked almost every day of any given week, a lot of those shifts were 12 hours without a single break (management are aware of this and have chosen to ignore this issue). ![]() On a busy weekend, you could be working two 12 hour shifts without a break or time to eat. You don't get breaks when there are games booked back to back. Whenever you talk to management, payroll or anyone that has the ability to change things, it feels combative and defensive as if they've grown a culture of "the company can never be at fault". The people who run the company are so ignorant and will ALWAYS look down on games masters who speak their mind and complain about valid issues. Don't go on holiday because the payroll team can't seem to function when it comes to calculating holiday pay. They will remove time from your timesheet without pre warning you about it, thus taking money from you and never telling you otherwise. The management frequently ignore staff concerns of their working conditions. The games are broken and take upwards of 7/8 months to fix game breaking issues. The company is so focused on opening new sites that they abandon current sites and leave them to break. Houdini's Escape Room Experience as a company, is in so much denial that they refuse to accept their responsibility in staff being treated awfully and never listened to. ![]()
